What Is Rhytidectomy (Facelift)?
Rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a plastic surgery procedure aimed at removing visible signs of aging. During the procedure, highly qualified plastic surgeons remove excess skin and fat and tighten the underlying muscles and fascia, eliminating sagging in the lower jaw and neck area.
It does not stop the natural aging process, but it can turn back the clock by approximately 10 years. For more comprehensive facial rejuvenation, it is often combined with blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, or a forehead lift.
Who Are the Best Candidates?
Although there is no strict age limit (patients between 30 and 80 undergo the procedure), it is most commonly performed between the ages of 40 and 60. You may be a suitable candidate if you notice:
- Significant sagging of the skin of the face and lower jaw.
- Deep nasolabial folds and a “double chin.”
- A persistent tired expression on the face.
How Is the Procedure Performed?

2. Procedure: The surgery takes 2–6 hours under general anesthesia or sedation.
3. Inconspicuous Scars: Incisions are made above the hairline and within the natural folds around the ears, making postoperative scars almost imperceptible.
Types of Face Lifts:
- Mini Lift and Endoscopic Lift: For minor corrections.
- SMAS (Deep) Lift: For comprehensive reshaping of the lower face and neck.
- Stem Cell Lift (Liquid Lift): Rejuvenation through injections of your own fat and stem cells (lipofilling).
Recovery and Expected Results

- First Days: Swelling and bruising may occur and reach their peak on the third day.
- Suture Removal: Facial sutures are removed on the fifth day, while scalp staples are removed after 7–10 days.
- Return to Work: Patients usually return to work after 7–10 days and to an active lifestyle after 3 weeks.
